As I lay here, upon my bed,
the sounds of heartbeat, in my head.
It slows, it quickens and beats louder with time,
it has rhythm, it’s music and with words makes rhyme.
Inside I’ll build, a barrier, a wall,
to protect me from this inevitable fall.
And as the pain in my head takes lead,
the cold in my heart tells me, take heed.
For it was just a simple smile
and the kind loving words, that lasted for a while.
Then, followed by a gentle kiss,
my heart was consumed in heavenly bliss.
An endless battle with love at stake,
a long restless night, I have yet to partake.
Waiting for the war in my head to subside
and once again make room, for love inside.
